Sandy Update #8

Alabama continues efforts in the New York area on Staten Island assisting with Cleanup/Recovery/Chainsaw teams in the wake of hurricane Sandy. The teams responding have imbedded chaplains and administration personnel to support the ongoing efforts. Bessemer, East Liberty, and St. Clair Baptist Associations have just returned having fielded numerous requests for flood recovery and chainsaw assistance. Teams that include West Cullman, Limestone, and Elmore Association will be spending their Thanksgiving holiday reaching out to homeowners to offer more than a holiday greeting.

Mel Johnson, State Disaster Relief Strategist commented, “These teams are but a few of Alabama’s finest and represent the devotion and determination Alabama has in serving Christ through the ministry of Disaster Relief. Their commitment to spend this Thanksgiving holiday assisting survivors is a vivid reminder that being on mission for Christ is a lifestyle and not simply an event. Our efforts and message are being received by people whose hearts have been opened to the clear and unmistakable hope being offered by those serving Christ in crisis.”

Coordination is currently underway to continue sending teams into the area as Alabama disaster relief participate in response alongside many other state conventions.
