Strong storms moved across North Alabama Monday evening, March 19, spawning several tornadoes. Among the hardest hit areas was Jacksonville in Calhoun Association, where the campus of Jacksonville State University sustained damage and the West Point Baptist Church building was partially destroyed. In Etowah Association, Rainbow City and Southside were impacted by the storms with around 130 homes reportedly damaged.
Alabama Baptist disaster relief assessment teams were deployed to storm-damaged areas on March 20. Clean-up teams and other volunteers will be deployed in the days to come where needed. A disaster relief check will be delivered to Ronny Moore, pastor of West Point Baptist, on March 21.
